srikhanda bhoothnath thakur on the occasion of Gajan festival

Hi friends. Like every year also this year this is time of 'gajan' festival.Gajan is a hindu festival mostly celebrated in west bengal. It is assosiated with the lord shiva. In Shiva’s gajan Shiva is married to Harakali on this day.the word gajan is considered a combination of parts of two words - ga is from the word gram meaning village and jan is from the word janasadharan meaning folk. In this sense gajan is a festival of village folk.

Manasa was accepted in the pantheon worshipped by Hindu lower caste groups.she saved Shiva after he drank the poison, and venerated her as the “remover of poison”.Manasa is depicted as a woman covered with snakes, sitting on a lotus or standing upon a snake. Manasa is ceremonially worshipped on Nag Panchami – a festival of snake worship in the Hindu month of Shravan (July-August). Bengali women observe a fast (vrata) on this day and offer milk at snake holes.this day the women of srikhanda keep vrata.this puja start on evening at 6-7 pm in everywhere but in bhairabnath tala the puja start on 10.30 pm an keep going till dawn.this the picture of manasa debi along with bhairab nath thakur(on the right).
